The controls are fine (besides not explaining anything properly. Didn't know I could heal until I tried every button randomly), but the biggest problem this game has is an unresponsive combat. You barely notice getting hit real hard and you don't get a feel for your own hits. They feel lame and boring. If you really want to try it out/ feel the need to do so, I actually think there are some people who might enjoy this game a lot. As for me, I wouldn't recommend it because the general combat doesn't live up to my expectations and generally feels unpolished and somewhat rushed. controls are sluggish un-intuitive and game breaking. apparently its better with a controller. Game was not engaging enough for me to go into the next room and grab mine. I was just annoyed too much by the voice acting and controls.. Ante scriptum: this review is done with the game patched to version 1.17.Man, the patch...I don't know where to start to describe this game. I am what I believe being halfway through (maybe a little less than halfway) and I already poured 9hrs in the game...So far the experience has been a little frustrating in the beginning (this is expected in a "souls"-like game, even if this game is MUCH different from the souls counterpart), a LOT frustrating moments in the Forest of Separation and the temple of the Water Guardian, and THE GLORIOUS 1.17 PATCH.If you are reading this and you tried the game/demo *before* the 1.17 patch hit the shelves, give it another try - the game can (and will) surprise you.Here's a list of what I personally experienced: the combat is incredibly more fluid Nyx is responding accordingly, when you dodge YOU DODGE (of course, if you have stamina) 2h weapons are the slow powerhouses that they deserve to be (without having you move like a slug) Nyx is moving faster, and so does Aether - exploring the areas now is feasible! The "shadow kidapping" sequences now are not the ugly chore that they were beforeThis is just what I got from the last 3hrs of this game post-patch. Like I said, a different game ;)So, without further ado, I can finally disclose my review for a game that well deserves it.PRO The atmosphere is spot-on, and sometimes truly well done. Combat is flud, fast paced and enjoyable. All weapons types feel and behave differently - you will find changing styles very often It is very beautiful to have to care about Aether, and some scenes with her are AMAZING (without spoilers, the part after the Water Guardian is thrilling) The developers are super-responsive - they patched the game a week after the release, listened to player feedback and they integrated what was within the spirit of the game without compromising it. I added one of the devs to my friend list and I keep talking with him about what I like or don't like :) Exploration is rewarding, and I personally felt the areas well designed (in terms of map layout, secrets and diversity).CONSThe voice acting is bad. Like - very bad.The game really lacks a soundtrack in many places. Sound effects are good and well placed, but I find that I would have loved music here and there.Inventory and menus are practical and functional, but could use some graphical touches.PERSONAL VOTE: 8.5/10 - well worth your time and money. Definitely recommended.Keep in mind that many negative reviews were written BEFORE patch 1.17. Try the demo, the devs updated it as well, and see it for yourself :). Ran ok, had no issues, been having fun and am not diswayed from completing the game. Lke it ovferall and recommend it for those into this genre of game.
